If that doesn't help, maybe your HD is formated to ntfs that is read only to mac os x. You should re-format it to fat 32 (ms-dos partition) using os x disk utilities for allowed it being use with both mac and pc.
Or choose hfs+ if you want that hd is dedicated for mac only.
BE advised it will wipe all your data, so back it up elsewhere before you do so.
